2024 Madaraka Festival postponed

Fans of Kenyan music in the USA will have to wait a little longer to celebrate their heritage. The highly anticipated Madaraka Festival, originally scheduled for this weekend (May 25th to June 17th), has been postponed due to visa complications impacting some of the headlining performers.

This year’s edition of the festival, planned as a multi-city extravaganza across 13 locations starting in Dallas and ending in Seattle, featured a stellar lineup. Kenyan stars Savara and Nyashinski were set to share the stage with Grammy-nominated Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo, Cameroonian rapper Naomi Achu, and award-winning DJ Dynamq.

Javan Okello, the festival organizer, made the difficult decision to postpone rather than deliver an incomplete experience. The uncertainty began when Nyashinski announced his withdrawal due to visa delays affecting his team. Yesterday, Savara followed suit citing similar reasons.

Okello assures fans that new dates will be announced once the visa issues are resolved. A seasoned organizer with ten years of experience running the Madaraka Festival, Okello views this as a learning opportunity. “This teaches us to plan better with our teams and partners to ensure the best possible experience for our fans in the future,” he stated.

Ticket holders can expect to receive communication from Ticketmaster regarding refunds or how to use their tickets for the rescheduled dates.
