KRA Extends Working Hours for Tax Filing Month

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has revised its working hours as the deadline for filing tax returns approaches.

In a notice published in local dailies on Tuesday 28 May, the authority announced that working hours would be extended to midnight on some days.

The new policy will apply to KRA service centers, Huduma centers and contact centers.

All tax offices are expected to operate from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm every weekday.

On Saturdays, service hours will be from 9:00 to 18:00, with the exception of Saturday 29 June, when service hours are expected to be from 9:00 to 18:00.

Service centers will be closed on all Sundays except 30 June, when the office will be open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The authority also announced that selected Huduma centers will operate from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, while all other centers will operate from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Huduma centers will remain closed on Saturdays and holidays.

The KRA Contact Centre will also operate from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm on weekdays but will extend the service from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm from 24 June to 28 June.

On Saturdays, the Call Centre will be open from 9:00 to 16:00.

On Sundays, the Call Centre will operate from 9:00 to 13:00, but on 30 June, the deadline for filing tax returns, the service will start at 9:00 and run until midnight.

KRA aims to have 8.2 million taxpayers file their returns by June 30 to avoid a Ksh10,000 penalty. Huduma Centers in Nairobi (GPO, City Square, Kibra, Makadara, Eastleigh), Mombasa (Southern Region), Nakuru and Kericho (South Rift), Eldoret and Kitale (North Rift), Meru and Embu (Northern Region), Kiambu, Laikipia, and Nyeri (Central Region), and Kisumu, Kakamega, and Kisii (Western Region) will provide services to facilitate this.
