The world of music mourns the loss of Duane Eddy, the legendary American guitarist known as the “King of Twang,” who passed away at the age of 86 in Franklin, Tennessee. His wife, Deed, confirmed that cancer was the cause of his death, marking the end of a remarkable career that spanned seven decades.

Eddy’s influence on rock and roll was profound, with more than 100 million records sold during his lifetime. His distinctive style, characterized by the unmistakable “Twang” sound of his guitar, captivated audiences and inspired generations of musicians.

Inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum in 2008, Eddy’s impact on the music industry was undeniable. His instrumental hits in the 1950s and 60s solidified his reputation as a pioneer of the genre, earning him the admiration of fans and fellow artists alike.

His enduring legacy can be heard in the works of iconic bands like The Beatles, who were inspired by his sound on tracks such as “Day Tripper.” Bruce Springsteen’s “Born To Run” and Blondie’s “Atomic” also bear echoes of Eddy’s distinctive twang, showcasing his enduring influence across generations.

Reflecting on his legacy in a 2011 interview with the BBC, Eddy expressed gratitude for the recognition he received from fellow musicians. “When people come right out, like Bruce Springsteen or John Fogerty, and say: ‘Duane was a big influence,’ that’s just one of the perks and rewards of what I did,” he said. “That’s worth more to me than money and fame. That goes right to the heart.”

Eddy’s impact transcended mere commercial success: his humble demeanor and passion for music endeared him to fans and colleagues alike.
